William Henry Thorpe McCommons, Sr, aka "Billy", only son to William Henry McCommons and Jennie Mae Sloan-McCommons and the youngest out of four siblings, was born on July 29, 1950 in Cincinnati, Ohio. Suddenly and tragically, Billy transitioned from this life February 25, 2025.
William graduated from Purcell Marion High School and bravely enlisted in the Marine Corps shortly after, where he fought in the Vietnam War. William was a man of God. Although he grew up attending Lee Chaple A.M.E. church, he walked with The Way Ministry for years. William was an active man and athlete in his younger years. He LOVED baseball, enjoyed roller skating, motorcycle and bicycle riding, and basketball. In his later years he enjoyed card games, dominos, "magic tricks", going to the golf course to "hit a few balls" and he absolutely loved spending time with all of his grandchildren. William loved music, with Donny Hathaway and Stevie Wonder among his favorites and old westerns. He was an EXCEPTIONAL cook (ask around about his green beans, greens, fried pork chops and BBQ ribs, specifically) and loved to throw down on the grill year round.
William is survived by and leaves behind to cherish his memory his two sons, William Henry Thorpe McCommons, Jr and Quinten Waite McCommons, his two daughters Cydnee Mae McCommons and Jennie McCommons, his sisters Joyce Combs and Janet Lee, his six beautiful grandchildren and nieces, nephews and cousins.
