Thomas F. Patt

June 13, 1928 — February 29, 2024

Emblem

Thomas Francis Patt was born on June 13, 1928 in Loretto, TN to William and Frances Patt, and passed peacefully on February 29, 2024. After serving in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, he eventually moved to Cincinnati where he met Mary Ruth Schubert and began his journey of being a loving husband and father.

Moving to Summerside in 1960, Tom and Ruth became members of a small church named St. Veronica's. This community, and this church, became one of the focal points of the last 64 years of his life. Through his devoted service and meticulous carpentry skills, he has left a mark that can still be seen today when you walk the St. Veronica complex. From book shelves, classroom cubbies, and the central crucifix hanging at the church's alter, he has left a legacy that will be felt for years to come.

Tom worked for the U.S. Postal Service before retiring in 1987. He then became the head of maintenance for St. Veronica School until retiring for good in 1992 to dedicate his life to volunteering for St. Veronica, and to use his craftsman's skills full time. He was a 60+ year member of the American Legion Post 72 and a faithful member of the Disabled American Veterans. His last major accomplishment was becoming a loving and affectionate Grandfather to his two grandchildren.

Tom was preceded in death by his wife Ruth; his children Lawrence (Larry) Dale, Ann Frances, Nancy Evelyn, and Michael James; his siblings Grace Kress (Louis), William (Dottie), Evelyn Kress (Bill), Mildred Patt Brown (Lloyd), James, and brother-in-law Eldridge "Pete" Pettus. Tom is survived by his children Thomas W. (Gina), Bruce J. (Kate Marrone), his daughter and caretaker Mary Jean, and Glenn F. (Kim); his grandchildren 1st Lt. Jarrod T. Patt (USMC) and Emma R. Patt, an aspiring art therapist; Gina's daughter Miranda Cockrell (Andrew); sister Sarah Ann Pettus (Loretto, TN); sister-in-law Bonnie (Lawrenceburg, TN); and many nieces and nephews. Nobody who knew Tom came away untouched.

We have all benefited from the glow and grace he provided. All of us could hope for a life as satisfying.

In lieu of flowers, and in the spirit of Tom's commitment to St. Veronica's, please consider donating an hour or so of your time to a cause or a place that provides a benefit to your community. If a monetary donation is your choice, please consider the DAV or The American Diabetes Association.
