Tye, Mary Anna, age 89, resident of Mason. Wife of the late Fred Walker Tye. Mother of Linda (David) Chalk, Sharon (Daniel) Deganis. Sister of Luella Plymale, Adell Caldwell, Ruby Kinder, Louise Grover and the late Charles Plymale. Grandmother of Erin (Anthony) DiMuzio and Hayley Chalk. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
She spent her early years in a farming community of rural Gallia County Ohio where she attended a one room school house. As a member of 4H, she first learned to sew, a skill which served her well during the depression over the coming years. She earned spare money by often babysitting the children of Bob Evans. In high school she won many awards for her ability as a runner, her abilities often called in demand for the track team. She did her part to help with the WWII effort by working in a munitions factory deep in a West Virginia mountain. After attending business college, she continued her career as secretary/office assistant in such businesses as insurance, proudly spending many years as office manager for a group of physicians until retirement well into her seventies. While raising her children as a single parent, she put her secretarial training to use by volunteering at the schools and church office. She was a member to the Clifton United Methodist Church and later the Sharonville United Methodist Church. She was an ambassador for the “Friendship Force”, an international traveling organization which fosters good relations with citizens of other countries. She either hosted families in her home or traveled to Germany, Austria, Russia, Costa Rica, Australia and New Zealand. She had an avid interest in genealogy, hoping to prove a connection to a patriot of the Revolutionary War in hopes of joining the Daughters of the American Revolution.
