Larry Lee (Poncho) Meranda passed peacefully in Batavia, Ohio at the age of 84 on June 6, 2024. He was born to the late Gail Howard and Jenny (Huston) Meranda at home in Williamsburg, Ohio. Loving husband of Jeralyn (Didday) of 59 years. Dear father of Kristina, Leah and Eric. Beloved grandfather of Dustin Bare and Meranda Bare. Dear great-grandfather of Maverick Bare And Jaegar Bare. Also survived by in-laws Diana (Didday) Dalton and Dave and Joan (Didday) Sexton, nieces and nephews: John, Tina, Melody, Scott, JD, Rodney, Carmen, Jeff, Bryan, Jody, Andrea and Austin. Many other family members and friends. Poncho was preceded in death by Howard (Margene Bowen), Richard "Dick", Kathleen, Carl (Phyllis Lyle), Faye Coleman, Jerry "Joe" Dalton, Jerald "Jed" and Ruth Didday.
Poncho served in the Ohio Army National Guard, Ft. Knox, Ky. He worked for Brewer Paving. He and Jeralyn started their own trucking business. Over the years, Poncho worked for Ryder Trucking, then went back to Brewer Paving, which was then sold to Barret Paving. As a young boy, he had a paper route and also worked with Danbury Trucking.
After marrying in February of 1965, Jeralyn and Poncho moved to Mariemont, where they resided for about 6 months. In the fall of 1965, they moved to Taylor Road in Batavia, Ohio, where they have resided ever since.
Poncho enjoyed spending time with his family, playing poker, gardening, woodworking, traveling, camping, fishing, hunting, tinkering in his shed, building, and anything John Deere. He loved the holidays, especially Christmas. Nutcrackers and Santa's were his favorite decorations. He loved decorating the outside with as many lights as he could put up.
A Celebration of Poncho's Life will be held Sunday, June 23, 2024 from 2 PM until 3:15 PM Service at Emmanuel Church 4312 Amelia-Olive Branch Road Batavia, Ohio. Masons service Lodge #104 F &AM from 3:15 PM until 3:30 PM and then followed by Military Honors starting at 3:30 PM until 3:45 PM by the Southwest Ohio VFW Memorial Team. Remembrances may be directed to the church.
