Dr Joseph G Halsey of Breathitt County, KY went to be home with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on April 19, 2022 surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his wife of nearly 57 years Shelia C Halsey of New Richmond, OH, his sister Brenda Miller (Barry) his children Tamarah Jo Stagg (Jon), Todd Halsey (Monica) and Joe Halsey (Kristi). His life was blessed with 14 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and his nieces and nephews Tiffany and Josh as well numerous friends and family.
Dr Halsey served his country faithfully in the US Army from 1960 through 1963 after graduating from Lee's junior college. Dr Halsey completed his undergraduate work at Morehead State University and then pursued his advanced degree in education first earning a masters degree from Xavier University and then a doctorate from the University of Cincinnati. He faithfully taught political science and government at Cedarville College (now Cedarville University) from 1970 until 2000. While serving as a university professor Dr Halsey also spent much time acting as pulpit supply and as an interim pastor at multiple churches throughout Ohio and West Virginia. His last full time position was senior pastor of Lindale Baptist Church in Amelia OH from 2000 to 2002.
Transformed by the power of the Gospel in his early twenties, Dr Halsey consistently modeled faith, service, discipline and integrity. His love for the Lord and passion for the Word of God were consistent influences on his life and family. He was a faithful husband, father and friend and his legacy will forever impact many lives.
Visitation will take place Monday, April 25, 2022 from 10am to 11am at The First Baptist Church of Glen-Este, 1034 Old State Route 74, Batavia, OH 45103. Funeral Service will begin at 11am.
Interment will be at North Cemetery, just north of Cedarville University. We will be individually traveling to the cemetery, and meet at 3pm for final disposition and goodbyes.
