Gregory "Greg" Scholl of Batavia, OH, passed away on December 9, 2023, just shy of his 73rd birthday. After battling health issues for the past few years with his stubbornness and strong will, Greg passed peacefully, comfortably surrounded by his family.
Greg was a loving husband to Kathi, father to Heather, brother to Randy, brother-in-law to Karen, and uncle to numerous nieces and nephews. He was a brilliant conversationalist with a unique gift for making anyone he encountered feel warm and welcome. Though he impacted many, he had a special influence on his inner circle of life-long friends and colleagues.
Greg loved many things, including travel, 70s rock, Mahjong, and desserts, but above all, he loved trains. He was never afraid to pave his own path, so he used his self-taught videography skills to build his railroad documentary business, Greg Scholl Video Productions. Over a storied, nearly 40-year career, his award-winning work is treasured by railfans worldwide. As the railfan community reacted to Greg's passing, his friend and America By Rail co-producer Les put it best by saying, "our hobby has lost a giant, and some of us have lost our friend."
Greg's impeccable sense of humor, thirst for adventure, and immense kindness made riding the rails of life with him a true pleasure.
Greg will be honored at Moore Family Funeral Home in Batavia (225 Spring St., Batavia, OH, 45103) on Thursday, December 14th, with a visitation beginning at 6:00 pm and a service at 7:30 pm.
Flowers may be sent to the funeral home. If you wish to honor Greg, please consider contributing in his name to Friends of the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad. Donations - Friends of the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad (friendsofcumbrestoltec.org)
