Carl Ray Hunter, age 94, passed away on July 8th, 2023. Born September 15, 1928, in Franklin County, Indiana to Conley and Oma (nee Mobley) Hunter. Loving husband to the late Annie Ruth (nee Garmon) Hunter. Cherished father of Carol Dianna (Gary) Forbes and the late Dennis Raymond Hunter. Beloved grandfather of Todd B. Rudisell (Heather), Steve Forbes, and Kristie E. Forbes. Great-grandfather of Anastasia, Hayleigh, Hunter Osborne, and the late Bryce. Great-Great-grandfather of Raedyn, Caesyn, and Nash. Also survived by his brothers James "Jimmy" (Karen) Hunter, and Larry Hunter, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Carl is proceeded by his siblings Herbert, William Austin, Roy, Elsie, Ruthie, Eva, Paul Richard "Bud", and Garry. Also, his very special friend, Ella.
Carl is one of eleven children that grew up on the Hunter Farm. Around the ninth grade, he was pulled from school by his mother to help work on the farm and learn the lessons and grace he would live by the rest of his life. He never met a stranger in his life, always making friends when he could, and offering a helping hand when he saw a person who needed one. A tour in the Army in the late 40's gave him the skill of welding that he would take to the Senco Corporation in Newtown, being one of their best welders for over 43 years.
He solidified his love of riding motorcycles during that time as well, a hobby he never left until his health forced it. One of those memories he loved to share was a time around when he was 80 where he had come across a deer walking across the road on his way to Metamora on a ride with his grandson Todd. He hadn't had enough time to properly stop and ended up running into the deer. However, instead of a proper collision happening, he had spooked the deer good enough that it jumped up, Carl continued to ride underneath it, with it right on the front fender. He rode with it a good distance like that while trying to get stopped to let it off. Carl and Todd were able to continue on their way to enjoy their ride and check out the sights where Carl frequented as a kid.
His favorite hobbies were bowling, golf, and fishing. All sports he got really good at and excelled in. He even tried out for his favorite team, the Cincinnati Reds, back in the late 50's as a pitcher, but 30 was too old to be selected, even though he had the stuff. He never left living on a farm, owning his own 10 acres here in Batavia, with a pond which made fishing even easier. He loved being outside on it, working on it, growing it, maintaining it, and while he was on the mower anyway, he'd get his neighbors lawns looking good too.
