Mr. Carl Robert Colter “Crutch”, 85, born September 6, 1931, in Cincinnati, Ohio, slipped the bonds of this earth July 6, 2017 to be with the Lord. He was the third child of the late Grace Marie and Carl Newton Colter. Carl grew up in Batavia, Ohio, was a graduate of Batavia High School and Central State University, and a veteran of the Korean War. After his service in the U.S. Air Force, Carl moved to Dayton, Ohio, where he resided for most of his life. He married Mary Isulia (née Jones) in 1960. He worked at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base as a computer programmer for over 30 years. After retiring from civilian service Carl got to do the things he loved most: fishing, photography, and bowling. Collecting matchbooks was a life-long hobby. Carl will be remembered for his wise advice, a willingness to help others, true fellowship, and being the kind of dad that is truly a blessing. Preceded in death by his sisters, Juanita Lucretia Colter and Jessie Glenn Colter. Carl leaves to cherish his memory, his sons, Carl Anthony, Keith Bernard, and Stephen Glenn Colter; aunts, Mrs. Lorna D. Palmer and Mrs. Elizabeth Dixon; cousins, Magdalene Palmer, Alyce (Jerry) Underwood, Janice (Percy) Harris, Johnetta Dixon Nelson, and Martha (Punkin) Dixon; special friends, Raymond (Marvis) Bowman, John "JJ" Johnson, Mrs. Nancy (Calvin) Hargrove, James Fisher; a host of nieces, nephews, devoted friends, the entire Jones family, and in-laws who will always hold him dear to their hearts. Service will be held 1:00 pm Monday, July 17, 2017 at the House of Wheat Funeral Home, Inc., 2107 N. Gettysburg Ave, Dayton, OH. Visitation 10 am-1 pm. Family will receive friends 12-1 pm. Interment Batavia Union Cemetery in Batavia, Ohio.
