Betty Mae Hess

Betty Mae Hess, (nee Scofield) of Anderson Township, passed away unexpectedly on November 18, 2022 at Anderson Mercy Hospital.

Betty was born July 16, 1948 to James Louis Scofield, and Maude O'Retta Scofield in Pulaski, Virginia. Betty moved to Ohio when she was just three years old.

In 1963, she met Gary Clay Hess in Newark, Ohio. Gary and Betty went on to have 4 children, Teresa S. Brown, Gary Clay Hess II, Manning James Hess, and Betty J. (Gene) Nimmo.

Betty enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed gardening and loved her flowers and crocheting.

Betty was preceded by her husband, Gary C. Hess, her mother, Maude O'Retta Rice, her father, James Louis Scofield, her brother, Leroy Scofield, and her granddaughter, Ashley Nicole Inez Hess.

She is survived by her children, Teresa Brown, Gary Hess, Manning Hess, and BJ Nimo (Eugene Nimmo), her grandchildren Alyssa (Matthew) Mensch, Mattisen Brown, Nicholas (Stefanie) Glener, Gary Gleaner, Leanna Hess, Clayton Hess, and Collin Hess, and her sister, Mary Wall, of Virginia. Also survived by numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and half siblings in North Carolina.
