BATAVIA - Lee Cornett, age 81, passed away on March 8, 2024. Lee was born on March 14, 1942, to the late Nando and Tessie Mae (nee Caudill) Cornett. He was the loving father of Leanne (Steve) Berke; cherished Papaw of Amy (Devin) Modlin, Kara Berke, Benjamin Berke and Olivia "Leigh" Berke; great-grandfather of Henry Modlin and Charlie Modlin; and dear brother of Dean (Nina) Cornett, Ava (the late Don) Blair, and Martha (the late Les) Lanier. Lee is survived by Leanne's mother, Shannon Cornett, and his beloved nieces and nephews... "Uncle" He is also survived by his companion Denise Kelly and countless friends, family, and former students from Ohio, Kentucky, Alaska, and everywhere in between.
Lee spent his life impacting others as a teacher, and he always had a special place in his heart for the little guys who needed him most. As a math teacher, it was only fitting that he was born on "Pi" Day, and he spent his years in the classroom finding endless ways to encourage his students to "THINK MATH" and to look to the skies for inspiration. He was a gifted carpenter, and his masterpiece can be found on Filager Road. Lee was a pilot, an Alaska fisherman, a hunter, a man of deep faith, and someone who found a way to stay busy every day of his life. He was a Rotarian and a Mason, and he served on the Batavia School Board, the Great Oaks School Board, and as a Batavia Township Trustee. Above all, though, his greatest loves were his grandchildren, and for anyone who spent more than a few minutes with him, there was never any doubt about that.
